ROXY X- Yachts : X-99 Yacht.

The Very First “X -Yachts” X-99 yacht was launched in 1985. The brainchild of designer Niels Jeppesen and an instant hit with the sailors of the world. Within a week of the initial launch 100 orders had been placed. Today the main concentrations of the over 500 X-99 launched will be found in Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Holland Hong Kong and Japan. Whilst the X-99 yacht will sleep 4 on cushioned bunks make no mistake the deck and sails are laid out for racing. ROXY is hull number 201 of the over 500 boats sold and she run like thew wind. Roxy has been tuned to just off the standard One Design rule book and can easily be brought back to line up with the specification however the changes we have made allow her to regularly and quite easily attain speeds in excess of 14 knots. Roxy’s gear is in top condition and everything is regularly maintained. The X-99 has very strong roots set firmly in racing beliefs. With 5 degrees swept back stays you need not worry too much if you tack or gybe with the running back stays off however when you head upwind and winch on the back stay ROXY will head up at such a tiny angle of attack that she will turn many heads in disbelief. Getting to the top mark quickly is what those back stays are all about then when you turn the corner and head on downhill this down wind screamer will come to life. ROXY is stable platform with a lot of sail area, she will give you an exciting run for your money.

Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race 2013 (M2O) Double Handed.

I wrote these words over a year ago. “Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race 2013, I hear you ask, “I thought that race was dead and buried.” Not at all. It is very much alive and that is fantastic news.”
I live in Japan and am moored at Hokko Marina. I took this page off the net for 12 months while waiting to see anything official written in Japanese. This month Hokko Yacht club after working hard here in Japan and with delegations to Australia has put it together. Hokko has announced the race in Japanese and this is great news.
Certainly the race has moved from a 2011 start to a 2013 and maybe the April start will move slightly to March start but it is back on and this time it looks like the race platform is official and energetic.
Both Sandringham Yacht Club and the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria have made announcements on their own club web sites declaring that, the race is on, ”..it is in safe hands” and have fixed the start date of 5th April 2013. (05/04/13.)
As at today the 20th October 2010 I see seven boats have registered and as I browse the names of the boats and owners I see only well known and trusted names. The scheduled 2011 race is definitely gone as stated by both Melbourne and Osaka City web sites. However it certainly looks to me that as far as the Australian side is concerned those who are able to make the decisions have kicked life back into this fantastic race.
Both the Australian side and Japan side seem to have made it official now. The ORCV in Australia and Hokko yacht club in Japan both show that there will be a race. The start date has moved around a little but has not settled on April 2013. The ORCV web site states a start date for the Melbourne to Osaka (M2O) from 05/04/13 and is accepting Expressions of Interest now. In fact at time of writing I see owners have shown Interest to Race.
My Research on this yacht race found these home pages. To me it very much looks like the race is on but we do have a question on the Japan side Host Club.

Around Osaka Bay Yacht Race. 大阪湾1周レース

ROXY our X-99 Yacht and crew think it is that time again and we thank the Kansai Yacht Club for preparing the ”Around Osaka Bay’ yacht race once again.
The race start line is set for 19:00 June 5th. The Time Limit (Deadline) is 16:00 June 6th.
At time of written this memo there are 15 boats entered in the race and I am sure late entries will be accepted.
The annual K.Y.C. “Around Osaka Bay” yacht race is a cheap and yet fantastic event. To the best of my knowledge it is the only race on the Japan yacht race calendar that has a start line set at 19:00. This provides a night start and I can promise you night starts and indeed night racing are very special.
Last year 16 boats lined up just in front of Kansai Yacht Club start line for what turned out to be a downwind spinnaker start. The start was quite gentle however as the night went on the fleet picked up some nice 20 – 25 knot true and managed some pretty good times running down to the Sumoto mark. The Sumoto mark is set at 34.21.2 N and 134.57.2 E a distance of about 26 miles from K.Y.C start line. I recall I was driving “Spindrift” a Takaii T301 30 foot yacht and we rounded the mark a little after 12:00 am. For our aging sports cruiser that was not a bad time at all. Having traded the T-301 in for an X-99 yacht we called ROXY we are again hoping for some nice winds to blow us around the bay.
Of course a quick look at the boat entry list below and you will see that this years race will be include some very tough competition including a GP42, Three X-35, IMX38, Archambault and on the list goes. Make no mistake these are some very competitive boats and they will be out to win across the line. Of course this race is not all about top class brand spanking new boats. Our X-99 is a rebuilt boat of 19 years and she is joined in the veteran class by Lucky Too. So please if you have a yacht and would like to join us, come on and give it a try.
Now if you are not doing anything 5th and 6th of June come on and join in the Kansai yacht Clubs “Around Osaka Bay” Yacht Race. If you can’t make the race then come on out and watch the start you will be glad you did.
Boat Entry List as at June 1st 2010.
